Links Second-Annual Santa’s Workshop

The Waco Chapter of The Links, Inc. will hold its second-annual Santa’s workshop at 9:30 Dec. 22 at the Phoenix Ballroom.

The workshop will include refreshments, pictures with Santa, a sock hop, storytelling and crafts. It is funded through generous donations from local vendors.

“We would not be able to provide such an elaborate event free to the community without our generous sponsors,” said Sonya Todd, chair. “Activities include a wonderfully, elaborate gingerbread house, Christmas card making and cup cake decorating.”

The event is for children of all ages. This year’s activities will include a sock hop to encourage health and fitness.

“We want children to understand that exercising can also be fun,” said President Josette Ayres.

The event is free and open to the public.

2012 Friendship Month Activities

The Waco Chapter had a great time during a Progressive dinner held during Friendship Month in November. Various Links prepared a course of the meal including soup, appetizers, salad, the main course and dessert.

At each stop, we discussed one of the following themes:
- a food that reminds you of friendship
- a song that embodies friendship to you
- a movie that symbolizes friendship
- be able to name one personal friendship experience (this can be anything, drinks with your girls, spa day, etc)
The highlight of the afternoon was having the opportunity to draw a card at each person's house with the goal of collecting a royal flush. The winner was Link Beulah Barksdale.

The Bronze Eagles Flying Club of Texas held the second-annual Waco Fly-In Saturday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Texas State Technical College.
Inspired by World War II fighter pilots—The Tuskegee Airmen—the organization gives youth an opportunity to explore the world of aviation.
Coordinated through the efforts of the Bronze Eagles Flying Club, Greater Waco Aviation AllianceTSTC, The Waco Chapter of The Links, Inc., and various other volunteers, the event offers students across McLennan County exposure to the aviation and aerospace career opportunities available from local employers and beyond.
In addition to the presence of local companies and career paths, more than 20 pilots will provide airplane rides to youth via private aircrafts further add to their aviation experience.
The Bronze Eagles Flying Club (BEFC) of Texas is a nonprofit charity flying organization and chapter of the Black Pilots of America (BPA).
“We help disadvantaged youth in their endeavors toward higher education, particularly in the field of aviation,” said Connecting Link Jesse Hayes, who was instrumental in bringing the program to Waco.
The organization also offers a variety of services including free familiarization flights, free aviation career training, and a National Summer Flight Academy for eligible students.

The inaugural Waco Youth Fly-in, held last Oct. 22 at the Texas State Technical College Airport, was a resounding success.
"This is a great program for the community," said Demetra Kennedy, Waco Chapter of The Links Fly-In chair, who estimates that more than 205 children attended last year. "People have asked us to repeat the Fly-in."

In addition to Fly-ins, the group participates in flying competitions, including the BPA’s annual Operation Skyhook competition in Pine Bluff, Ark.
